My first reaction to hearing about games in the library was dubious at best. I know all about the research but having worked in a public school library for four years (not to mention being a parent for almost 19 years), I'm also very familiar with kids and their "motivations." My personal belief is that kids who love books....will come to the library. If these same kids also love games or need to use the computers in the library for games, then they will also avail themselves of what the library offers in addition to the computers. Kids who refuse to open a book, but get excited over computer games and gaming will use the computers, or attend the game parties....and leave. JMHO ("just my humble opinion," to you noobs!) I mean...I go to Lowes or Home Depot for gardening supplies but I have ZERO interest in shower O-Rings or two-by-fours. Just because there's a sale on mulch does not mean that I will be tempted to develop an interest in socket wrenches.
Free Rice and Sudoku? Could there BE a more appropriate challenge for Secret Asian Girl? Sudoku is fun if it doesn't drive you crazy but I usually get frustrated early. I already knew about Free Rice and have played before. I love word games and I was ALL over this one like white on.......uh, well....rice. Duh.
